For this workshop we'll spend time learning how acupressure (and acupuncture) works. Then, using Debra Bett's Acupressure for Labor handout, we'll learn to accurately locate and stimulate point combinations for various conditions surrounding birth.

To preview the workshop material, check out Debra Bett's handout on her website.

This workshop will give you the tools to help prevent labor delays, reduce the chance of complications, and alleviate symptoms such as pain, nausea, vomiting, or other types of discomfort for the laboring parent.

It is possible to learn this material on your own, so if you're on a budget, please do study the material! There are, of course, many advantages to learning in a class. Likely you already know that learning in a group rather than on paper is a better way to learn and remember for when you need to use the techniques. The main advantage, though,  is being trained by an acupuncturist. Acupuncture points are not always where they "should" be. Different bodies may have them in a slightly different location, or they many move around slightly day to day, week to week. There may also be a "blockage" in the channel that leads to ineffective stimulation of a particular point, even if you've located it correctly. Learning what a successfully located and stimulated point is suppose to feel like is very important to having a positive treatment result.
